Creating an Agent in D-ID’s Creative Studio is a simple step-by-step process that allows you to design an interactive, face-to-face AI experience — complete with a personalized avatar, voice, and knowledge base.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Start from the Agents tab
- Log into D-ID Creative Studio
- Click on "Agents" in the left-hand sidebar
- Click the “+ Create Agent” button
2. Choose the Agent's appearance
- Select a visual avatar for your Agent
- You can pick from stock avatars or previously created avatars
- Or click “Create” to make a new one from a photo or video
- Once you’ve chosen an avatar, click Next
3. Configure Agent details
Set the core attributes of your Agent:
- Name: Give your Agent a recognizable name
- Language & Voice: Choose how your Agent will speak
- You can select from built-in voices, use your cloned voice, or import a voice (e.g., from ElevenLabs)
- Role: Define what your Agent is — e.g., a product expert, customer support assistant, virtual host, etc.
- Agent Instructions (optional): Add specific guidelines for how the Agent should behave or respond to users
- Personality: Describe the Agent's tone, attitude, or communication style (e.g., friendly and helpful, professional and concise)
Click Next when done.
4. Add knowledge sources
Upload documents your Agent will use to draw from in order to answer users' questions. You can also simply type or past in the knowledge you want you agent to draw from (limited to 10,000 characters).
- Supported formats: PDF, TXT, PPTX
- Up to 5 documents, each with a max of 500,000 characters
- Use paragraph-style text (articles, FAQs) — avoid relying on tables or images
- Drag and drop your files into the upload box
Set Grounding Mode:
- Grounded: Uses only your uploaded sources
- Hybrid: Prioritizes your sources but can pull from general knowledge
- Ungrounded: Doesn’t rely on any custom data
💡 Use the Preview panel on the right to test your Agent’s responses (text mode-only at this stage).
In this tab, you can also adjust the agent's creativity level, on a scale of 0-100. This determines how predictable and focused your agent's responses will be. We encourage you to test out different levels of creativity to see what best meets your needs and expectations.
Click Next once you're satisfied.
5. Customize chat settings
Personalize the Agent’s user interface:
- Welcome Message: The first thing users see when interacting with the Agent
- Starter Questions: Predefined suggestions to help users begin the conversation
- Set topics that your agent should avoid
- Determine the maximum answer length that you want your agent to give
These updates will reflect live in the Agent preview window.
Click Create Agent when everything is ready.
6. Done! Your Agent is ready to use
After a few seconds, your Agent will appear in the Agents tab of the Creative Studio.
From here, you can share it via a direct link or embed it on your website.
